With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Steve Adkins on February 9th, 2024, at Ascension St. Thomas Hospital West in Nashville. Steve was born on February 20th, 1949, in Jamestown, Tennessee, to Fred and Mabel (Cooper) Adkins.
After graduating from Tennessee Tech in 1979, Steve embarked on a career dedicated to education and community service. For 11 years, he shared his passion for learning and sports as a teacher and basketball coach in Fentress County, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of his students and athletes.
Transitioning into farm equipment sales, Steve dedicated 28 years of his life to this profession. His expertise and commitment shone brightly during his tenure, culminating in his final establishment at Ford New Holland where he then retired. Despite his professional success, Steve's true happiness came from his family, his draft horses, and cheering on the Tennessee Vols.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Billie Jean (Beaty) Adkins, his daughters Ashlie Adkins (John Rigsby Jr) of Bowling Green, KY, and Angela Barnes (Brandon) of Clarksville, TN, along with his cherished grandchildren Alyson and Jayce Rigsby and Camden and Caroline Barnes.
He is also survived by his sister, Diana (Adkins) Gullet (Jim) of Bowling Green, KY, and nieces and nephews Amy Carter, Kim Cruz, Jimmy Beaty, Ryan and Jason Meadows.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mabel Adkins, his sister Donna Adkins, his father-in-law Bill Beaty, his mother-in-law Vella Mae Beaty Darnell, his brothers-in-law Keith, Kenny "Asby", Richard "Leon" Beaty, and his niece Sarah Beaty.
A service to honor Steve's life will be held at Jennings Funeral Home Chapel in Jamestown, TN, on Tuesday, February 13th, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Storie Cemetery. His memory will forever be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy of kindness and dedication will continue to inspire.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 12th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Jennings Funeral Homes Chapel in Jamestown.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the Tennessee FFA Association. With generous gifts, the FFA Organization is able to gift FFA jackets to members who would not otherwise be able to own their own jacket. Give The Gift Of Blue: http://www.FFA.org/giveblue
