Harlie Hinds, age 83, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at the VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Harlie was a man of great character and resolve; he was born on July 4, 1937. He grew up and decided to enlist in the United States Navy. He was looked up to because of his experience and maturity. After several years of honorable service to our nation, Harlie went into the meat packing industry for most of his adult life. Over the next 20 years, he worked for Stadler’s Packing Company, then went on to work for the Worthington Packing Company, Smithville Foods in Virginia and Martin Meats in North Carolina. Harlie enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in his younger years. A very important part of his life was gardening. It was much more than a hobby. Sharing what he grew gave him great satisfaction. He always grew much more than he and his family could eat so others could have great locally home grown food.
