Edith Evelyn (Millsaps) Russell

Edith Evelyn (Millsaps) Russell, age 96 of Rickman and formerly of Jamestown, was  born November 6, 1924 and passed away May 19, 2021.  She was the second of four children born to Curt and Cora (Stewart) Millsaps.  She was a native of Jamestown Tennessee and lived the last few years in Rickman, Tn and Cookeville, Tn. 

 

Evelyn graduated from York Institute in 1941 and loved planning her alumni reunions with and for classmates.

 

She was a  cosmetologist for more than 30 years at the Jamestown Beauty Salon eventually becoming a co-owner.

 

Evelyn married Ben Russell in 1944. She and Ben had three daughters, Francis Gail, Sandra Lynne and Marilyn Ann.  Gail preceded her in death at the age 13. Evelyn and Ben were married 54 years.

 

Evelyn was a Christian and worshiped at the Jamestown church of Christ and later at the Holly Springs church of Christ.

 

In her early years, Evelyn was president of the Pine Haven Elementary School PTA and chaired the annual Cancer Fund drive.  After retirement, she was actively involved in the Jamestown Garden Club, Allardt Home Demonstration Club, Farm Bureau Women, and the Fentress County Fair.  She loved working at the fair as Dept. Co-chair  for the  flower division.  Evelyn loved flower gardening, quilting, embroidery, and showing off  “Ben's Big Valley”.

 

Evelyn is survived by daughters Lynne (David) Qualls and Marilyn (Bruce) Mullinix,

grandson Derek (Marta) Mullinix, great grandchildren, Tucker, Tessa, and Taryn Mullinix, brother Clyde Millsaps, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

 

She is preceded in death by parents Curt and Cora (Stewart) Millsaps, husband Ben H. Russell,

daughter Gail Russell, sister Shirley Russell and brother Wallace Millsaps.
