Bertha "Kay" Eckhardt Obituary

Bertha Kate "Kay" Eckhardt, born on February 25, 1944, in Deer Lodge, Tennessee, passed away on December 23, 2023.  Kay's life was one of immense love, dedication, and joy. On January 12, 1963, she married Frank Eckhardt, whose passing in August 2020 left an indelible mark on her heart.

She made Fayetteville, NC her home in 1962 and found love with Frank. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone through as she owned businesses ranging from a restaurant to a video production company. Kay also spent years as a dedicated real estate agent until her diagnosis with breast cancer in 1993.

Above all, Kay found her greatest fulfillment in being a mother.  Kay is survived by her sons Keith Eckhardt of Colorado Springs, CO and Cary Eckhardt, and daughter in-law Kelly of Simpsonville, SC.  Her legacy extended to her grandchildren and is survived by - Alex, Brandon, Heather, Allison, Cameron, and Dannah, as well as her four great-grandchildren - Henry, Penelope, Declan, and Vera.

Her passions were as vibrant as her spirit - from gardening and canning vegetables to creating delicious fruit jams. She relished country-style cooking, cherished moments on her front porch, and found joy watching Wheel of Fortune. A die-hard fan, she cheered passionately for Tennessee football, UNC basketball, and the Carolina Panthers.

Kay's kindness, warmth, and love will forever echo in the hearts of those she touched. Her legacy of love for gardening and cooking will live on in the cherished memories of her family and friends.

Kay is survived by her sisters, Mildred Young of Deer Lodge, TN, Barbara Young of Northeast, MD, and brother, David Austin of Elkton, MD.  She joins her brothers, Ora, Wade, Kyle Austin, and sister, Jean Molthen in eternal peace, reunited with her parents, O.F. and Dimple Austin.
